Lintrove — Documentation Theme for Ghost
A Ghost 6 theme for product docs and knowledge bases. Pages stay in the order you set, and a two-level sidebar (groups → sections) is built from your tags. It adds a table of contents on each page, code blocks with copy buttons, Ghost's built-in search and dark mode.
What it does
Ghost is a great place to write, but out of the box its archives list the newest post first, with no sidebar and no chapters. Lintrove turns a Ghost 6 site into a docs site, and you keep writing in the normal Ghost editor:
- You control page order. Prefix slugs with 10-, 20-… and pages appear in that order, whatever their publish dates.
- Groups and sections. Two-level navigation (group → section → page) built only from tags, with no plugins and no routes file.
- Readers always know where they are. Breadcrumb (Docs / Group / Section), current page highlighted in the sidebar, collapsible sections, previous/next links.
- On-page table of contents. Built automatically from H2/H3 and highlights as you scroll. Shown on wide screens (hidden below 1180 px).
- Code that's pleasant to copy. Syntax highlighting with bundled Prism, a language label and a one-click Copy button.
- Search with nothing extra to set up. Uses Ghost's built-in search. A header button, the home page box or the / key opens it.
- Dark mode. Visitors can toggle it and the choice is remembered. You pick the default (System / Light / Dark) in the theme settings.
- Works on any screen. Sticky header. On tablets and phones (≤ 900 px) the sidebar becomes a drawer.
- Sample content included. Import a ready-made set of sample docs to see the structure before writing your own.

Before you buy: limitations
- Every page must carry its group as the 2nd tag, or the group is hidden.
- Section tag slugs must use -s- (Ghost turns -- into -).
- Every public tag becomes a navigation group. Non-doc tags must be internal (#tag). Delete Ghost's starter "News" tag before you start.
- Previous/next does not cross section boundaries.
- The search pop-up is Ghost's own and stays light in dark mode. It searches titles and excerpts, not full page text.
- No always-visible sidebar on tablets (drawer only).
- List limits: 100 pages per section/group, 50 groups, 50 sections per group.
- Not included: versioned docs, multi-language/RTL, full-text search, a custom search UI, a page-feedback widget.
- Not tested: members/paid content, comments, custom fonts from Design settings, Ghost(Pro), Ghost 5.x.
Compatibility
- Ghost 6 (requires Ghost ≥ 6.0.0). Tested on Ghost 6.70.0 only.
- Self-hosted Ghost tested in Docker. Ghost(Pro) has not been tested.
Installation
- Download lintrove.zip. Don't unzip it.
- Ghost Admin → Settings → Site → Theme → Change theme → Upload theme, choose the zip, then click Activate.
- Optional: Settings → Advanced → Import/Export → Import lintrove-sample-content.json to load the sample docs.
- Create tags as described in the bundled sample docs: groups like 10-getting-started, sections like 10-getting-started-s-10-setup. Then tag your pages (1st tag = section, 2nd tag = group).
- Optional: Settings → Site → Navigation to add links to your group pages; Settings → Site → Design & branding to set the default color scheme.
FAQ
Do I need plugins or routes.yaml?
No. Everything comes from tags and slugs.
Can I change the order later?
Yes. Rename the slug (e.g. 20-… → 15-…). Leave gaps between numbers.
Does search cover full page text?
No. Ghost's built-in search covers titles and excerpts.
Ghost 5?
Not supported or tested. The theme requires Ghost 6.
Can I use it on client sites?
Yes, on sites you or your client own. See License.
